Windows Phone App on Mac (running OS X El Capitan), does not recognise Windows Phone

Ire_741 asked on

Many of us had this dilemma on Yosemite and now we get it again with OS X El Capitan; yes, the system refuses to connect to our Windows 7 mobile phones yet again.

Yup, I am technically inept, which means that all solutions must be conveyed to me like you're explaining it to a kid. Go forth and bring me back solutions, you lovely techies. Kiss you on both cheeks.

I have a Lumia 520 running Windows Phone 8.1. The Windows Phone application on the Mac (v. 3.1.1 (140416)) has always worked better for it than the Windows Phone application on Windows... ironic. I installed El Capitan this week and now the Windows Phone application says "Connect your Windows Phone to continue". It will not continue whether I use the original connector that came with the phone, which always worked before, or a different connector. Windows 10 Mobile is not yet released, so this is the currently shipping OS for Windows Phone and should be supported.

Also, the Mac's Photos application launches, goes to the Import "tab" with the checkbox "Open Photos for this device" checked, displaying the make and model of the phone and says "No Photos". This leads me to believe that El Capitan is not communicating as before with the Windows Phone. iPhoto shows the phone as a device but doesn't show the photos, just "Loading...".

There have reportedly been a number of issues with Office 2011 and 2016 on El Capitan and Microsoft is working on a fix. I'd like to see Microsoft add the Windows Phone app to that list. As a side note, Office 2016 is working perfectly on my Mac. Since Microsoft writes applications to run on the Mac platform, it seems IMHO that their developers should test them on Mac pre-release builds.

Please,

I need help, too. Just got this El Capitan. Tried to put some photos to my Mac from my Lumia 800 (Windows 7.8) and it won't work. El Capitan just doesn't let my MacBookPro recognize this Lumia.

Ooh now I remember why I didn't  update to Yosemite earlier. Worked fine with earlier versions.

Do I have to throw away this Lumia 800? I wouldn't want to do so because I really like this Lumia camera.

Please, release an App that will work between windows 7.8. and El Capitan. I need it NOW!

In the meanwhile you can upload your photo's to Microsoft Onedrive and from there you can download them to your Mac. I know it's not the perfect solution but it's something.

This is frustrating. And I can not believe that this is the only thread I found on this topic ?!?

Using El Capitan

I just bought a 930 and I can not even find the Windows Phone.app to download.

I think it has to do with the rootless lock on system files which is new to El Capitan.

I really hope to see a fix soon!

Francine,

That's an interesting observation. I downloaded the app from the App Store on Sunday. It is not available now. Let's hope that's a good sign.

I saw that too. It's a matter of time now.

As a workaround for now to sync photos without OneDrive, the Nokia Photo Transfer tool for Mac still works with my Lumia 1020 to transfer JPG and DNG on El Capitan.

Don't know if it works with non Nokia/MS phones though..

to me photos aren't the issue but you just gave me a great idea to sync music: Use OneDrive. It'll take a while though because internet in Australia is **** and were ranked about 50th in the world.
