Is Office for MAC 2016 64-bit Native Yet???

Is the newest Office for MAC download version running natively as a 64-bit program?  Or is it still 32-bit software that just happens to run on 64-bit operating systems?

There is a big difference in speed.

I think from searching online that it is still 32 bit software that has a version that runs on 64 bit computers.  So still a slower version.  But hard to tell.

I called Microsoft sales, tech support, and tried two chat sessions with Microsoft but none of the Microsoft people speak English well enough to understand the question.

Thanks.

Office 2016 for Mac is 32-bit, single threaded. Microsoft has made no announcements to bring Office for Mac into the 1990's by making it 64-bit, multi-core and multi-threaded.

Apple has not said when support for 32-bit apps will end, but sooner or later that is likely.

Be sure to include the version number and OS version when asking your question.

OK, are you 100% sure?  That's what I thought, as that's what I was reading online.  But I called Microsoft twice, and used their chat support twice - to both sales and tech support - and they said the new Mac version was running natively in 64-bit.  I didn't have confidence that the Microsoft people even understood the question as they don't really speak English, but seems like Microsoft is spreading misinformation.  Thanks.

Microsoft product support people are generally oblivious to Macintosh vs Windows. Unfortunately, they try to impress by offering suggestions based on what they know about Microsoft Office for Windows and hope against hope that what they know also applies to Office for Mac. Most of the time that actually works OK, but for any technical stuff they simply don't have a clue and are too egotistic to tell you they don't know and could get back to you.

Yes, I am sure that right now Office 2016 for Mac is 32-bit. You can find ways on line to actually verify this for yourself.

If you want to be the first to get the 64-bit version when it comes out, in AutoUpdate click the box and join the "insider" program. Personally, I am thinking it might be something that happens sooner rather than later.

Be sure to include the version number and OS version when asking your question.

Hi everyone,

The Office team just released a preview of the 64-bit version of Office 2016 for Mac.

This version is available to those who have signed up to receive updates through the Insider Fast channel. The transition from 32-bit to 64-bit is automatic for Insider Fast users; they just need to install yesterday's update, 15.25 (160630).

The 15.25 update available to Office Insider is 64-bit. What, specifically, do you mean by "native"?

Does office for Mac run natively as 64-bit, taking full advantage of 64-bit power, making it significantly faster.  Or, like it has for the past several years, is it still running in 32-bit, but able to work on 64-bit machines.  A HUGE difference.
