I am not able to search in Outlook 2011. Any search shows "no results"

I was using Entourage 2003 and moved to Outlook 2011.

I am running an IMAP account. which i accidentally deleted on E03. I have set up a fresh IMAP account on O11 and have performed a send/receive.

Queries:

1. I am not able to search in 011. Any search shows "no results"
2. After the send/receive are mails still stored on the web server or does a copy exist on my computer? Do i need to drag the IMAP folder to the "On my Computer" folder to save the emails locally? (when i removed the account on E03, it erased all my emails on my computer)

Any help will be appreciated.

Best,

Kiran

Answer
Search uses Spotlight.  This has been a stubborn fix for some users. Restarting often helps to kick start Spotlight to index your files.

HOW TO RE-INDEX FOLDERS OR VOLUMES

From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.

*  Click Spotlight.
*  Make sure Mail Messages is checked under the Search Results tab.
*  Click the Privacy tab.
*  Drag Your Office 2011 Identities folder or even an entire volume (your hard drive) to the list. (this can take a long time if you do entire drive)
*  Remove the item or volume you just added.
*  Spotlight will re-index the contents of the item you initially dragged to the list.

In addition....

Try deleting these files in your User’s Library/Preferences folder:

  • com.microsoft.Outlook.SyncServicesPreferences.plist
  • com.microsoft.SyncservicesAgent.plist
  • Also in the User's Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2011 folder delete OfficeSync Prefs

You will need to reactivate Sync Services in the Outlook Preferences pane.
