There are two Stores in Windows 10 Technical Preview

If I search for “Store” in Build 9926 of Windows 10 Technical Preview, the search results show two different Store icons:  the familiar green tile, called “Store”, and a grey tile called “Store (Beta)”.

What is the difference between these two Store apps?

Answer

Hi Babu,

Build 9926 of Windows 10 Technical Preview debuts the next generation store where we will begin unifying the Windows Store on your desktop with the future Windows Store for phone under a common universal platform.

“Store (Beta)”, with the grey tile, is this new Store client.  It has a new look and feel, and the ability to search for universal apps.  Look for us to continue to add features and content to the new Store (Beta) as they are made ready.

The green-tiled “Store” is the legacy Store client that you’re familiar with from Windows 8.1.

We’ve transferred many of the Windows 8.1 apps to the new Windows Store (Beta), but the two stores have different app catalogues.  So not all of the Windows 8.1 apps will appear in the new Windows 10 Store (Beta), and apps for the Store in Windows 10 Technical Preview will not be available for PCs running Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.
