Are there any risks of using the Beta Store app to make purchases?

There are reports that when you use the BETA Store App to purchase an app that you have already installed in trial mode that the app continues to run in trial mode. You need to use the GREEN Windows Store App to make these purchases to avoid this issue.

Hi Barb,

Thank you for writing to us!

In this current build (9926) we have introduced Store (beta), it brings together the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store experience under one platform. On Store (beta), customers can buy a variety of products such as modern apps and games and as the time passes by it will evolve much more than what we have now.

During this preview, Store (beta) is only available for desktop PC devices. Desktop PC devices will also have the legacy Store (currently existing Store on 8.1) available to them. For visual clues as to which Store the customer is running, Store (beta) is grey and Store (currently existing store) is green

Now coming back to your question “Are there any risks of using the Beta Store app to make purchases?

No, there are no risks of using and purchasing the apps using the Beta store as it uses the same 3D secure gateway purchasing mechanism as used in the traditional store.

Have a good day!

No, there are no risks of using and purchasing the apps using the Beta store

Wasim

1. Install an app that has a trial mode from the green store. Try Tweetium as an example.

2. Now use the grey store to purchase that app.

3. It remains on trial mode.

Hey Barb,

I refrained from answering your second post, because I wanted to try it myself before answering that one. I will try this on my computer and get back. In the meantime I have also escalated it to the PG and will update this thread once I receive any inputs from them.

Thank you!

Hi Barb,

I am following-up on some information I received.

Did you notice any of your purchased apps that did not properly convert from trial to paid have self-corrected?

Paul...

So, first, I personally rolled back Windows and then reinstalled and used the production store. So I'm not a good test case. But I was not the only person with this issue:

Thanks for the detail, Barb.

There is some caching between the two stores and it may be that the time to refresh that cache might have made this look like an app did not properly convert from trial to paid.

The Store team is aware of the issue. I was just trying to find some confirmation of Apps that did not eventually appear properly.

Just a note I found a work around for the beta store, when viewing the win 8.1 app store on line in a browser, using windows 10 preview, when I chose a download to install my green store app opened up and is now pinned to the start menu, downloads well and apps work apart from the graphics hungry games.

Cheers

Paul

This is not related just to this one app.  I had previously purchased an app called 2day (and use it all the time).   When I loaded it from the gray store, it showed as a trial version  and I can not find an option to re-synch the licenses.   When I saw this thread, I deleted the app and re-downloaded from the green store and it solved the problem.
