Realtek audio on 10041 no DTS Interactive

Updated to Windows 10 build 10041 and had to reinstall the Realtek audio drivers.

Unfortunately the DTS Interactive function of my sound chip no longer woks and I can only output DTS audio and no longer Dolby Digital through my optical connection.

Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe

Audio: Realtek® ALC898

Hi Eoghan,

Thank you for posting your query in Windows 10 Technical Preview.

I understand that you are unable to get the Dolby Digital sound output while using Windows 10 build 10041.

This usually occurs if the drivers installed are not capable of delivering the output from the sound card.

As you have already reinstalled the drivers hence it could have occurred due to the compatibility issues with the driver installed and the Operating System.

As per the manufacturer’s website, I see that there are no drivers available yet for Windows 10, hence I suggest you to remove the drivers that are installed and reinstall the drivers available for Windows 8.1 in compatibility mode and see if it helps.

Please follow the steps below to uninstall the drivers:

  1. Press Windows Key + R
  2. Type devmgmt.msc
  3. Right click on the audio driver and select Uninstall

After uninstalling the driver, please download the audio driver from the link below and install the driver in compatibility mode:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_DELUXE/HelpDesk_Download/

To install the drivers in compatibility mode, follow the steps below:

  1. Right click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties
  2. Select Compatibility Tab
  3. Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system accordingly from the drop down list
  4. Click OK and run the setup.

Hope this information helps, do let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the very fast reply!

Using compatibility mode does indeed restore Dolby Digital.

Unfortunately the DTS Interactive 5.1 format still does not work.

When testing this mode in sound properties a warning box appears with the text "Failed to play Test Tone".

I understand that the drivers may need to catch up in this case to restore this function.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response.

As the desired functionality is not available in the compatibility mode, hence I suggest you to install all the available updates through Windows Update, as it may include the latest driver which could enable the required function.

If you have any issues with Windows in future, do let us know we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

Hi,

None of the above resolves the matter, but i guess its to be expected of a technical preview.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Although I have the exact same issue, mine is on the ASUS Maximus VII Hero motherboard.

My friend has the same issue on 2 different motherboards with the realtek chip.

Thanks

I too have this problem.

I have 10 Pro Tech. Preview Build 10049

My mother board: ASROCK Fatal1ty X99M Killer has a digital optical out, for DTS.

I installed the latest drivers from their support site:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20X99M%20Killer/?cat=Download&os=Win8a64

Realtek_Audio(v7195)

This file is for windows 8.1 so I tried both standard install and installed using compatibility mode.

When I go to the Realtek Digital Output settings (under advanced) and select DTS, it says "Failed to play test tone."

DTS had worked with a previous windows 10 build, but when I updated, DTS no longer worked.
