Cortana Speech Issues - PC Build 10122

In Build 10122, there is a bug that can cause issues when using Cortana’s speech capabilities. If you are affected by this bug, you may see the following behaviors:

  • The input box will not display the words that you speak
  • Some spoken commands will appear to be recognized  by Cortana, but may not behave properly (such as saying "Play music" will result in "Playing music" being displayed, but not music will start playing)
  • Other commands will cause an error to be displayed (for example, “can’t connect” or “something went wrong”)

If you are seeing these behaviors when using speech in Cortana, please try the following:

  1. Launch the task manager by hitting ctrl + shift + esc
  2. Click “More Details” at the bottom of the window
  3. Scroll down to Background Processes and find “Search” in the list.
  4. Right click Search and select End Process.
  5. After a few moments (the search process will take some time to restart), please try using Speech with Cortana again.

I have found an issue with speech recognition, that was not present in build 10074 but is present in build 10122. when you start speech recognition (via control panel or otherwise) an error occurs and speech recognition shuts down again. before I go any further, let me state the entire system is set for US English. I English is the only language installed, as I I don't speak any other language. the error reads as follows:

Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options.

the only option in the speech recognition setting it refers to is "Microsoft  Speech Recognizer 8.0 for Windows (English - US)

I don't know if this affects Cortana or not, but I am assuming it does. I will do some further testing and report back to see if Cortana is affected.

Is anybody else having this error with the speech recognition system (accessed through control panel or start menu - type "start speech recognition"

I upgraded from build 10074 to build 10122 on two computers. Neither computer talks to me. On build 10074 both computers spoke to me.

Speech recognition is using way too much CPU time, about 25% of a Sandy Bridge extreme in 10122.

She's not speaking to me, either, after restarting Search.

Please come home, Cortana, all is forgiven!

This is true. I tried this process and her speach (her being heard) is intermittent, and recognizing users speach as well. Once commanded, ex: Cortana  "play my music"  you will hear a response of  "shuffling your music"..  and then... nothing, the app, in this case windows media player, never opens. In short, Bugs still need to be worked out before the release, and as insiders, I guess we have to be frustratingly patient. :)
