Hi,
There is no such thing as emergency mode. The "emergency mode" you are seeing is symptom of the infection. There is a description athttp://www.forospyware.com/t362808.html
I guess the removal instructions at http://support.mozilla.com/nl/questions/776974 (a few registry tweaks) are worth a try.
Kind regards
Hans
Just 4 days ago, my home computer got infected with a virus - - Antivirus 8 or AV8 - - that screwed with my internet access. I purchased a new PCDoctor Antivirus with Spyware and it got rid of the virus for me. Now, however, every time I get on the internet, it runs in Emergency Mode so it blocks the majority of websites. How do I get my internet OFF of emergency mode so I can use it? My son and I both take classes online, so this is a real bummer!
Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):
1. What anti-virus application or security suite was installed WHEN THE COMPUTER GOT INFECTED and was your subscription current?
2. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application ever been installed on this computer?
3. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)
4. Was the computer fully-patched at Windows Update WHEN IT GOT INFECTED?
A friend suffered the "Antivirus8" infection today. I was able to shut the app down from the task bar. Then immediately delete it from programs and startup. Then delete:
Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\AV\Antivirus8.lnk
Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\AV\Uninstall.lnk
Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Desktop\Antivirus8.lnk
Program Files\AV
Program Files\AV\Antivirus8.exe
Then I went into regedit,
delete data at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Antivirus8
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “Antivirus8″
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Antivirus8
Then I have IE emergency mode. This one is easier if you have your computer doing restore points on a regular basis. I did a restore point 14 days back and voi la! All is well.
The restore location is Start/programs/accessories/system tools/system restore. I am sure this step can be done in the registry but restore is easier and safer. Gene
What's "emergency mode?" Are you referring to No Add-ons mode?
Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode [Applies to IE7 & IE8 in all OSS]
