Error during any current update or download - "windows installer service could not be accessed windows installer is not correctly installed

Windows automatically tries to update and restart the same updates over and over, now it will not let Safari Update either.

I have the Fix it Center but it is not Fixing the problem

IT IS NOW SAYING WINDOWS INSTALLER SERVICE COULD NOT BE ACCESSED, WINDOWS INSTALLER IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED.

Receive Error number: 0x80070424 when accessing Windows Update site.

Error code not listed in known codes, but seems to be related to a service that has shutdown. The service does NOT startup when the system is rebooted. What system needs to be restarted, and what Windows XP commands restart it?

I see several answers to the question of Vista users getting this error message when they try to update. I have XP SP2 and want to make sure that following these instructions (from another answer) would also apply to XP:

Please try the following:

Click Start >> Run >>
Type the follow command in the Open box.
"net.exe stop wuauserv" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Restart the machine and try again.

KB2656351 and KB2600217 keeps reinstalling every night when i turn my pc off

Hi all

was wondering why every time i turn my pc off at night it updates with KB2656351 and KB2600217, they both are important and both always install successfully, i have tried installing them while running windows update and just from turning the machine off, but every time after that installation i turn off my pc at night and it does it all again. Im running windows 7 pro 64 bit on and intel system, msi p7n32 mobo, quad core 6600, 4 gig ram ,radeon HD 6850 graphics. both are for framework 4 one is 9 mb and the other 32.2mb all updated have worked in the past and always been successful and without complications, this one has me stumped.

SUMMARY

After you try to install an update from Windows Update, you are prompted to install the update again.

= YES!!

CAUSE

This may happen if the update isn’t installed correctly the first time, or if your Windows Update settings can't detect the update.

= Windows update in all places says that it has installed properly and was successful

RESOLUTION.

Reset Windows Update components and then try updating your computer = Downloaded the fix it for this and it didn't fix anything.

Determine whether the update was installed = It says it was everywhere I look.

How to troubleshoot the problem if the update was not installed = doesn't apply.

= Applies to me so I ran the fix it program and it didn't change anything, also ran the microsoft safety scanner 1.0.3001.0 and have no infected files. I currently use Bitdeffender total antivirus also and have never had a virus. every time I check for updates though it says again I have these same updates to install even though it says in view update history that it has been successful for the last 15 times.

All updated to date have installed successfully except these two.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there,

Just wanted to post a fatal flaw with the latest Windows 8 Update. On the Acer W500 Tablet PC, the Boot Manager/Loader was corrupted by it. Not sure if it's related to my specific configuration. Everything is manufacturer default except for the hard drive that I upgraded some time ago. It is a Seagate 60G SSD. I should also clarify that I did a clean install of Windows 8 32-bit from the get-go in order to really get to know it.

Anyways, It gave me the opportunity to reformat back to Windows 7, which I will use until Windows 9 (or whatever it'll be called) comes out. I wasn't impressed with all the extra hoops I had to jump through to perform simple tasks and the full-screen start menu and apps really aren't for me. I have an iPad and an Acer Android tablet, and there's a reason I also have a Windows tablet (it simply does things iPad an Android can't). I gave it a fair 2-months worth and carried my tablet with me everywhere I went to give this OS a good run. I'm a power user and I like to get things done as quickly and simply as possible without having to jump out of the programs I'm using.

It just seemed that Windows 8 sacrificed simple productivity for unnecessrary fluff in my eyes, and I simply didn't want another Android or iPad--they're already out there and I don't really need another one. Not to mention that I actually found the tablet experience extremely frustrating compared to using 8 on the desktop. The hotspots don't work as they should at this point and it wouldn't really matter if they did work. Quite frankly, I just didn't like them. I found them frustrating and unecessary due to the fact that it just didn't make sense to have them (in my eyes). they really served no real purpose to exist.

I understand the need for change and often welcome it due to the fact that I enjoy learning about new systems. I was also one of the few that embraced Vista with open arms (yes, I liked it. It was an improvement once the unecessary aspects of it were disabled). Windows 8, on the other hand, didn't meet my expectations for productivity and I figured it is only fair to let it be known why.

I'll definitely give the next instalment a go due to the fact that there were some promising things I came across in 8. I really liked the ribbon interface on the Explorer. I liked that I could simply jump right to the control panel from it and it showed a lot of promise in that area. However, with the popularity of smaller widescreens, I would like the ability to move the ribbon to the side since it makes more sense to have it there instead of at the top for the way I do things. This is something I've been wanting to see since MS Office 2007.

The ability to mount ISO was long overdue and a welcome addition, as was the way that 8 simply 'worked'. Plugging in a USB and being able to use it without having to wait for the system to install drivers was also a brilliant touch. I sincerely hope to see improvements such as those in the future and I've never been more excited to see what MS will offer in the next 'Windows'.

Sadly, I just can't continue to use 8. I really came to hate it more than any other OS I've ever used due to the lack of logic behind the way things are done in it. I've honestly never hated using an OS as much as I've hated using this one because it seemed to take longer to achieve simple tasks that were easily accomplished in the past. Everything about Metro and the hotspots just felt like it had no rhyme or reason to even exist. It felt disjointed, unecessary, and wrong.

I realise this won't change anything, but it's only fair that I state my concerns.

I am having problems installing the May 8 .Net Framework critical patch KB2604092 on my XP/sp3 system. MSU said it installed successfully, and the MSU Update History confirms this, but when I do a Custom Scan at MSU it keeps offering this update again.

So I called the free phone support # for MS security updates (1-866-PCSAFETY), and the tech informed me that if MSU said it installed, and if KB2604092 was listed in my Add/Remove Programs (and it is), then I could hide that offer to re-install at MSU. So I did that.

But Belarc Advisor continues to say it is not installed. I ran QFEcheck.exe, and it did not find this patch either. Furthermore, all the file versions/dates I have do not correspond to the ones listed here for KB2604092:

For example, all the GDR Service Branch files that should be version 2.0.50727.3634, are actually 2.0.50727.3625, or 2.0.50727.3623, or some other earlier version.

So do I have this wretched patch installed or not?

I am running a Windows 7, 32-bit operating system with an Office 2010 office product. Update KB2597166 when installed renders my Excel all but inoperative. It is unable to do any large task such sorting data in 30 MB file. After it was installed I found out it is a bad update with one or more bugs. I tried to uninstall the update, and the uninstall process failed after partially uninstalling itself. It sent a message stating the KB2597166 update WAS NOT UNINSTALLED.

Now when I try to uninstall it. The Update History tells me KB 2597166 is still installed, but when I go to the screen to uninstall KB2597166 that update is not listed.

Two questions:

1. How do I uninstall KB2597166?

2. Is Microsoft going to fix the update? If so, how do I know when they have it fixed and it is safe to install?

Please answer as soon as you can as I am a tax consultant to a business with over $800 million in fixed assets and we are working hard at getting the fixed asset system up and running. I need this Excel program on a daily basis for several hours each day. Right now I am dead i the water, and making zero progress at getting moving again.

I've never had problems installing updates. Now, I've got 2 Office 2007 updates, KB2596672 and KB2596871 that fail to install giving an error code of 57. I've tried them separately with the same result. I have run Mr. Fix-it program and it makes no difference.

Successfully updated Windows on 16/4/12. Now, however, it won't update and I notice that my system is saying that "this copy of windows is not activated". It will not re-activate and gives error code 0x80070426. Have had this Acer laptop since 2008! Also, on system start-up, I get a message saying that the Microsoft Software Licencing Service has stopped working and was closed". I have had Norton running well before problem. Have run the Microsoft fix-it tool and it suggests that the location where Windows Update stores data has changed and must be repaired. Any ideas how to re-activate Windows?

"Fix it" did not solve the problem and said there was nothing wrong.

Ran diagnostics on all disks chdsk with nothing showing.

Ran full virus scan using Norton 360 - nothing

Tried install with virus software disabled - no luck

Ran registry clean up and then tried again - failed install again

Dowloaded fixes individually - all installs failed

Ran MS Malicious Software removal tool which found nothing. - Install still failed.

If these security patches are important why won't they install?

I've run out of ideas and tools to throw at the problem.

My windows installer has ceased working. I have tried many 'fixes' found on the net, but to no avail, and would appreciate it if someone could walk me through the solution. WinXP, SP3.

In 'Services', 'Windows Installer' was listed as 'disabled'. I have changed this to 'manual'.

msiexec /unreg runs ok.
msiexec /regserver gives an error: 'An event was unable to invoke any of the subscriber'

I downlaoded and ran KB942288-V3 and got 'Setup error. Access is denied'.

I have looked at permissions in the registry, and I seem to have all permissions ok, but maybe I am looking in the wrong place?

Benn experiencing much difficulty in installing these two update. They begin creating a restore point, start downloading and once they begin to install; they both failed to install, and error code FFFFFFFE is displayed. Does anyone have a remedy for this issue? Copy Error when downloading Wnidows XP Service Pack 3

Every time i try to download xp service pack3 i get a copy error in relation to a file called "beethov9.wma". It says "cannot copy file to destination directory. Click Retry to retry or click Cancel to cancel. I click retry and i get the same error. I cancel it and get asked "do you want to continue Set Up without copying the file". I click yes and the installation stops and says "Set up cannot copy the file beethov9.wma. Any help or advice would be much appreciated as i need to download sp3 because my PC is experiencing problems each time i turn it on. I have recently started getting Stop Errors (Blue Screen of Death) when i start my PC.

I got two responses on KB2597086 security install for excel 2003, well does that mean I can't install the update? Is this product no longer supported? I have used this function before and it always finds the drivers for my older printers. Now when I use the function, it says that Windows Update connot retrieve the list of additional drivers and to try again later. This is happening on XP Professional, Windows 7 32-bit, and Windows 7 64-bit. These are computers where this has worked before. The function no longer works on them. Now I am trying to set up a new computer (Win7 64-bit) and can't get the drivers I need. Is there a problem on Windows Update?

When I was closing down my laptop earlier today it automatically ran 19 updates for, I assume, Windows 7. When I switched on the laptop this evening it started installing Update #7 of 19 and this has now been running for greater than 2 hours. Is there a problem with this update and how do I get around it.
