Windows Version switching issue !!

I have a Sony vaio laptop which was shipped with 64-bit windows 7 home . I want to install 33-bit windows 7 on my laptop . Can this be done ? How can I do it? And can I use the license key to register my 32-bit installation that I purchased with 64-bit windows 7 ?

Can't restore computer to an earlier time

I ran sfc /scannow and found corrupt files. I attempted to correct this by using cmd prompt to return my computer to its original settings. Needless to say this was a huge mistake as everything was wiped out . The screen reverted to the original start-up as if I just hooked-up everything new.

I've tried everything including tutorials in order to do a SYSTEM RESTORE but have had no success. I've tried to do a SYSTEM RESTORE several times and it lets me choose a restore point then takes "forever" to go through files and registry and says the computer may restart several times during the process but it does not.

After about half an hour I get a message saying system was unable to restart. I clicked on find a system and repair but to no avail.

Is there any way to undo what I have done in order to restore the computer to the previous state befor I wiped out everything??

Involuntary change of icons, corrupting games and hanging programs.

Something downloaded to my computer is changing icons. Changing the location address. Putting the same icon on multiple programs. It is corrupting and hanging games. Just today, it caused some programs to freeze, while task manager says they are running.

I did a recovery of my system and re-installed just the utilities on drive c, yet something is still causing the above problems. I've run three different virus scanning programs and each says there are no virus or other things on my computer.

Something is going on and it is advancing; little by little. I do have a backup drive installed, but the games on located on the backup drive and it seems to be affected also, or how are my games being corrupted.

My computer was protected by a firewall and anti-virus programs. I don't know what else I could have done to keep my computer safe and virus-free. Yet, I am experiencing problems I have never encountered in over 20 years of owning computers.

Has anyone else experienced these types of problems.

I am trying to install Windows 7 64-bit on my computer. I get to 67% and then get an error code: 80070570. Going through the forums and microsft answers I have tried all suggestions that I have seen so far:

1. ran memtest for like 8 hours with no errors

2.removed a stick of ram

3.changed bios settings for SATA

4. unpugged all usb devices .

I am doing a clean install on a new SSD.

Nothing seems to work! Any help with this issue would be appreciated!!

I get this message after the XP Mode site runs windowsactivationupdate.exe, and yet, when I click on continue to download the 1st segment [which also used to work until ???] I'm back at windowsactivationupdate.exe all over again, endlessly, after many reboots.

What do I have to do to get XP Mode back in 32-bit WIn7Pro?

With previous Windows operating systems it was easy to copy a font from one computer and install it on another. Not so with Windows 7. Or maybe I've simply forgatten how I used to do it. All suggestions welcome.

I was testing out a program with several system utilities built in. One of its components left my computer in a bit of a mess – no icons anywhere and other assorted woes. I had set a system restore point before I ran the program, so I thought I’d do a system restore. for this i had only option to restore my system and i did so.now i have new windows with all my data deleted :( no restore points are tehre .i have no recovery disk or cd .how to get my windows and data back .please help

Last Thursday 10th May I received a telephone call from a Brian Parker *** Email address is removed for privacy *** He said he was a technician for Windows London Office,that I had problems with my computer and he could fix them for me.He gave me a code to enter into my computer which I did and then he was right there on my computer with his cursor showing me the problems.Thousands of errors etc. Scary .... He was most charming and we must have talked for about 30 minutes in all as he was explaining the problems I had and showing them to me.Then he went on to say that if I was to buy 2 software products he would fix the problems and I would never experience these problems again.The price was over 200 euros which I can not afford.He quickly offered me a lower price ( after speaking with his manager ) I explained I can not afford nor want these products.If my computer crashes it is no big deal to me.He then asked me how much I was prepared to pay,I could pay what I liked virtually and pay the rest when it was convenient.After a very hard sell period I told him I needed to speak with my partener,I had his mail ad and I would mail him if I wanted to pursue this further.He was not so charming when we said goodbye.Needless to say he called me back on Friday 11th May claiming I had asked him to do so.I reminded him of the ending to our conversation the previous day.This again was not a very charming follow up call.Is this normal proceedure from Windows ? Have they taken to Telephone sales ? I found it most odd and I was left feeling very vulnerable.

Toshiba Protege running Win7 (64). After the first 30 days, I had the first 'Blue Screen of Death' at shutdown. Over time it happened more frequently, so I finally called Toshiba. Their solution was to Disable ALL Startup programs. This solved the problem, but a real inconvenience. So I experimented with turning many back on. However, the 'wheel scroll' function on the touchpad didn't work. I discovered a work around by going to the Control Panel/ Mouse/ Wheel and 'Apply' any change, then it would start working.

After installing the April Windows Updates, one update Failed (KB2679255). I didn't worry about it too much, thinking MS would fix it in the next Update. After installing the May Windows Updates, a second Update Failed (KB2676562). I called Toshiba Support and after a 20 minute HOLD, I spent 1 1/2 hours with the Tech on the Blue Screen/ 'wheel scroll' problem. Finally I was told that the software was NOT covered by the 1 year warranty and that I would have to pay $100 to actually fix both problems. That's just not right. I checked with MS and they say that if the MS Software was installed by the Manufacturer,(Toshiba), they support the software. So it would seem that my only option is to be 'Blackmailed' into paying Toshiba $100. I don't know if this is an industry policy, but Buyer Beware. This is the last Toshiba product I'll buy..... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

KB2656351 and KB2600217 keeps reinstalling every night when i turn my pc off

Hi all

was wondering why every time i turn my pc off at night it updates with KB2656351 and KB2600217, they both are important and both always install successfully, i have tried installing them while running windows update and just from turning the machine off, but every time after that installation i turn off my pc at night and it does it all again. Im running windows 7 pro 64 bit on and intel system, msi p7n32 mobo, quad core 6600, 4 gig ram ,radeon HD 6850 graphics. both are for framework 4 one is 9 mb and the other 32.2mb all updated have worked in the past and always been successful and without complications, this one has me stumped.

This may happen if the update isn’t installed correctly the first time, or if your Windows Update settings can't detect the update.

= Windows update in all places says that it has installed properly and was successful

RESOLUTION.

Reset Windows Update components and then try updating your computer = Downloaded the fix it for this and it didn't fix anything.

Determine whether the update was installed = It says it was everywhere I look.

How to troubleshoot the problem if the update was not installed = doesn't apply.

= Applies to me so I ran the fix it program and it didn't change anything, also ran the microsoft safety scanner 1.0.3001.0 and have no infected files. I currently use Bitdeffender total antivirus also and have never had a virus. every time I check for updates though it says again I have these same updates to install even though it says in view update history that it has been successful for the last 15 times.

All updated to date have installed successfully except these two.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7 Starter to update an ASUS Eee PC 901

Hi,

I own a ASUS Eee PC 901/XP, with Windows XP Home SP3 OEM.

I want to replace the standard 8GB SDD for a larger one (maybe 64GB SSD) and upgrade it from 1GB RAM to 2GB RAM.

So, my question is:

Is there any legal way to install Windows 7 Starter on my Eee, like upgrade the XP to Win7 (Starter)?

I'd tried another Eee with Win7 Strater and I liked it, I don't want the Home version because I think that will be to much for the little Intel Atom.

If I replace the SSD I will lose the XP OS, I will restart with an empty drive. Do I need the upgrade version or I need a full version?

I have purchased a refurbished windows 7 machine i purchased in the US. I am now out of country and trying to use the machine for the first time and when i enter the coa for activiation it says that it is not valid. The machine came from a certified microsoft refurbisher. does it have something to due with being in a foreign country and how do i fix it.

How can I adjust my camera? The image is upside down.

I installed W7 Ultimate last year and it has been running with out problems until I installed Norton Internet Security 2012. After the Norton installation, Windows now reports that my copy of Windows is not genuine.

I tried to change my Product Key (using the Key on my COA), but got this result:

"A problem occurred when Windows tried to activate. Error Code 0x8007000D."

I tried a phone activation using slui.exe 4, but it fails because Windows reports my copy is not genuine.

I can not submit an email support request because MS support says that my Product ID does not match my location:

"The product ID number you entered is not supported in the country that you have selected."

I found instructions on re-activating on the MS support site, but it requires that I do a clean installation of Windows and I do not wish to do this.

I would like some advice on how I can resolve this issue and verify that my copy of Windows is indeed genuine.

I am thinking about upgrading my CPU, RAM, Mobo and GPU but keeping the same HDDs and hopefully not having to reinstall or reactivate Windows 7. All of my parts are retail boxed and assembled myself. Windows 7 is Retail boxed 7 Home Premium. Am I likely to run into any complications and are there any steps I should take before going ahead with the replacement?

I am running a Windows 7, 32-bit operating system with an Office 2010 office product. Update KB2597166 when installed renders my Excel all but inoperative. It is unable to do any large task such sorting data in 30 MB file. After it was installed I found out it is a bad update with one or more bugs. I tried to uninstall the update, and the uninstall process failed after partially uninstalling itself. It sent a message stating the KB2597166 update WAS NOT UNINSTALLED.

Now when I try to uninstall it. The Update History tells me KB 2597166 is still installed, but when I go to the screen to uninstall KB2597166 that update is not listed.

Two questions:

1. How do I uninstall KB2597166?

2. Is Microsoft going to fix the update? If so, how do I know when they have it fixed and it is safe to install?

Please answer as soon as you can as I am a tax consultant to a business with over $800 million in fixed assets and we are working hard at getting the fixed asset system up and running. I need this Excel program on a daily basis for several hours each day. Right now I am dead i the water, and making zero progress at getting moving again.

I downloaded a gadget using "Get more gadgets online" link. I've placed (MSNWeather.gadget) in C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets but it isn't listed when I right click the desktop and select Gadgets.

How can I use this gadget?
